Questions Raised Over Alleged Irregularities in Suchak Cooperative Housing Society at Madh Island

Suchak Cooperative Housing Society in Madh Island has come under scrutiny after some members publicly alleged financial and administrative irregularities within the society. During a press conference held at Shubham Villa, society members Mehul Mehta, Pramod Tulsyan, and Reshma Patel presented documents and raised concerns regarding the society’s functioning.

The members alleged a lack of transparency in the society’s administration and that certain decisions have adversely affected residents. Key issues highlighted included alleged discrepancies in water connection charges, collection of facilitation charges, and the alleged misuse of vacant land within the society premises.

Pramod Tulsyan, owner of Shubham Villa (Plot No. 29A), stated that his bungalow is located outside the society gate on a BMC road and does not utilize any society amenities. Despite this, he alleged that the society has been charging him facilitation fees.
Tulsyan further claimed that while the society describes itself as residential, 16 of the 21 constructed bungalows have approvals for IT-commercial use. He stated that he possesses commercial electricity bills, Trade License, Shop and Establishment License, Food License, and regularly pays commercial taxes to the BMC.
Another major concern raised during the press conference was the lack of basic civic infrastructure. According to the members, despite the society being nearly 50 years old, it still lacks a BMC drinking water connection or drainage system. They alleged that the society is now demanding approximately Rs. 4 lakh from each plot owner for water connection-related work, amounting to nearly Rs. 2 crore in total.
Tulsyan also questioned the ownership of the road where vehicles are parked, claiming the society possesses no ownership documents for the stretch. He alleged that he has independently maintained the road and surrounding area since 2002 and cited a letter dated November 17, 2014, allegedly issued by the then secretary stating that the road behind his bungalow was not a society road.
The allegations became more serious when questions were raised about the society’s management and land usage. Tulsyan alleged that land worth crores of rupees has been under occupation since 2007 and is being used without charges, while members are allegedly being billed for disputed areas where ownership itself is unclear.
He further alleged that after raising objections, invoices amounting to Rs. 6,000 per day were issued against him. He claimed to have filed complaints with the police in 2022 and again in 2025, while related proceedings have also been pending before the Deputy Registrar since 2021. According to him, a recovery notice was issued on August 17, 2026.
The members also questioned why important society records are allegedly kept at the secretary’s residence despite the society having an office and a manager. Concerns were raised regarding record maintenance and transparency.
Additional allegations included claims that certain defaulters continue to remain on the managing committee and that the Secretary and Treasurer belong to the same family, creating a possible conflict of interest.
The members have demanded an independent inquiry and audit of the society’s financial and administrative affairs. At the time of filing this report, no official response from the office bearers of Suchak Cooperative Housing Society was available. Their response will be included once received.
