In an unprecedented gesture, veteran actor Annu Kapoor and entrepreneur Kumarr of Studio Refuel washed the feet of women during a press conference announcing their upcoming Antakshri event. The symbolic act, held in Vadodara, emphasized respect and gratitude toward women, drawing widespread attention.

The highly anticipated live Antakshri competition will take place on December 14, 2024, in Vadodara, with auditions scheduled for December 12 and 13. The event will see 24 finalists divided into six teams competing in the grand finale. Cash prizes of ₹1,01,000, ₹50,000, ₹25,000, and ₹11,000 will be awarded to the top four teams.

The act of washing women’s feet has been described as a tribute to their role as the backbone of society. Speaking at the event, Annu Kapoor said the gesture aimed to underline the importance of treating women with dignity and respect, reinforcing cultural values in a rapidly modernizing world.

Kumarr, who recently launched the radio show “Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le” with Padma Shri Suresh Wadkar, said the event seeks to blend tradition with entertainment. Known for his “Radio Column by Kumarr,” which has gained popularity in Vadodara, he sees the Antakshri event as an opportunity to celebrate music while preserving the city’s rich cultural legacy.

“Vadodara is a city deeply rooted in its cultural heritage. Through this live Antakshri, we aim to revive the joy of music and tradition while celebrating the city’s talent. This event is our effort to keep our sanskaar alive and ensure they are passed on to the next generation,” Kumarr said.

The event is expected to attract a wide audience and marks the beginning of what the organizers hope will become a long-standing tradition in Vadodara.
