CM Uddhav Thackeray recently launched the Mumbai Police Calendar 2021 created by Ace Photographer Pravin Talan
3 min readUddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, recently launched the 6th edition of Mumbai Police calendar created by ace photographer Pravin Talan. The calendar has stunning and never-before-seen action images of Mumbai Police and can easily be called one of the best in the series. In the new world order the threats are varied and ever increasing, whether it’s the pandemic, terrorism, law & order situations or cyber-crimes, and Mumbai being the financial capital of the country is always at the centre of it. The 2021 calendar imaginatively projects the many facets of the force whether it is policemen in PPE kits or Bomb suit, ferocious Belgian Malinois dog , QRT commando teams with MP- 5 and Ak-47 patrolling at nights or the more emotional pictures like a policeman fixing a little girls bicycle. During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mumbai Police force saw the maximum number of casualties in Maharashtra, and in spite of grave dangers stood as the solid barrier between the deadly virus and the citizens. An inspirational addition in the calendar is the photograph of the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai leading from the front, on foot march in Covid hotspot Dharavi when the pandemic peaked in 2020. Talking about the calendar Param Bir Singh said that the year 2020 wasn’t the easiest one to sail through for the world. But the citizens should be given the credit for getting through the year; for surviving its good, bad and ugly. All of it, with the lucky three – grit, grace and gratitude. In its fight against the virus, policing found a new meaning as much as the ‘spirit of Mumbai’ did. We will always be ‘the wall’ between the good and the evil, and be with Mumbaikars in the fight against the unseen, unknown and unheard-of enemy. The calendar in concept and execution was mentored by Vishwas Nangare Patil, Jt. C.P. (Law & order) who is hailed as one of the heroes in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Since then Mumbai Police has come a long way in terms of training and equipment, as is visible with QRT commandos making it to the cover of this coveted calendar this year. Photographer and film maker Pravin Talan is widely acclaimed for bringing to life, in images, the heroism of security forces around the country and this calendar is an annual feature, a tribute to the brave, compassionate and unparalleled police force in the world. The Mumbai Police calendar is highly regarded as a fine blend of art, action and emotion and treated as collector’s item since it always poetically captures the spirit of the mega-city through the eyes of its police force. This year Pravin Talan was honoured by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackerey on behalf of Mumbai Police for his selfless contribution over the years and his recent endeavors during the Covid pandemic such as the books TRUE GRIT & Atulya Himmat and viral video hit Rakh tu Housla to support Mumbai Police Foundation. Also present at the launch were Aditya Thackeray- Minister for Environment, Aslam Shaikh -Guardian Minister for Mumbai city, Satej Patil-Minister of State for Home .
