2 min readAt the press conference, the convenor of Shree Mumbai Jain Sangh Sangathan, Nitin Vora among other people of the community including Kamlesh Bhai, Puja Ben, Snehal Bhai Shah, Kumar Doshi and Vipul Bhai Shah raised their voices against the Palitana shrine protection . While speaking to the media, Nitin Vora thanked everyone for supporting the protest that stopped Shri Sammed Shikharji from becoming a tourist place.
He further stated that things will improve and be practised better after the detailed gazette comes in place. The other issue raised by more than 90 rallies at the event was the issue of Palitana shrine protection. The issue is yet to be official and the Jain community wants to protect the shrine by bringing it on paper.
While interacting with the media, Kamlesh Bhai revealed that Shri Shatrunjaya Tirtha in Palitana, Gujarat is a holy pilgrimage of the Jain community. “A lot of illegal activities are practised there for the last few years which has hampered the holy pilgrimage. Be it illegal mining, illegal occupation or the wine distillery, the sentiments of the Jain community are deeply hurt”, he said.
Currently, the community protested in large numbers against the Jharkhand government for not letting Shri Sammed Shikharji become a tourist destination. The protests went out of proportion in cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad which provoked the government to not make it a tourist spot. Shri Sammed Shikharji, also known as Parshwanath Parvat is located in the Giridih district of Jharkhand. It is believed that 20 out of 24 Jain Tirthankaras have attained salvation here.
